Elaine Li

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Hi there! I’m Elaine (she/her), and I’m so glad you’re here. If you’re navigating life’s challenges and looking for support, I’d be honored to help. Let me tell you a bit about myself and how we might work together.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and as a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), I specialize in supporting adults who are managing ADHD, depression, stress, and the pressures of balancing career and family life. Using therapeutic approaches like CBT, EMDR, and SFBT, I will tailor our sessions to fit your unique needs and goals. My trauma-informed practice is all about creating a safe and supportive space for you. I focus on providing culturally sensitive care, especially for LGBTQ+ and multicultural clients. Whether you speak English, Mandarin, or Cantonese, we will work together in a way that feels comfortable and inclusive for you.

Outside of therapy, I like to think of myself as a lifelong learner, though sometimes that means stumbling my way through a new French phrase or a questionable guitar chord progression. When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me trying to write a song that doesn’t sound like all the others or pretending I’m fluent in French (spoiler: I’m not... yet). These hobbies remind me that growth is messy, imperfect, and occasionally hilarious—much like life itself! I firmly believe that embracing our imperfections is one of the most powerful steps we can take toward living authentically.

I would be honoured to walk alongside you on your path to healing. If you’re ready to explore how we can work together, I am currently accepting new clients and would love to connect. Let’s start with a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need therapy?

Life can be overwhelming at times, especially when juggling career, family, and cultural expectations. While not everyone may feel they need therapy, many people benefit from it. Therapy provides a safe space to explore challenges, gain new perspectives, and develop strategies for living more authentically and freely.

What can I expect from the first session?

In our first session, we’ll take time to explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. We’ll also discuss your rights, responsibilities, and the confidentiality of our work together. This initial conversation will help me understand your unique needs and allow us to create a plan tailored to your goals.

How will I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

The relationship between client and therapist is crucial for successful therapy. I offer a free 15-minute phone or online consultation where we can discuss your needs, answer any questions, and determine if we’re a good fit to work together. Your comfort and trust are my top priorities.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes, I offer online therapy sessions via secure video conferencing. Online therapy is a convenient option for those with busy schedules or for clients who prefer to access therapy from the comfort of their own home.

What are your fees, and do you offer sliding scale rates?

My standard rate is $235 for a 60-minute session, following the Recommended Fee Schedule by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta. You can find more information here. I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for those experiencing financial difficulties. Please contact me to discuss your situation and availability.

Can I use my insurance for therapy?

As a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Alberta, my services are covered by many extended health insurance plans. I recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage. I can also direct bill for Alberta Blue Cross, making payment easier for you.

How do I handle payments and cancellations?

A credit card is held on file to confirm your appointment at the time of booking. Payment is collected at the end of each session. I accept credit card and e-transfer payments. Please note that I require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice or missed appointments will be charged a late cancellation fee equal to the full session cost.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential, which means everything discussed in our sessions remains private. There are, however, a few legal exceptions, such as situations involving harm to yourself or others, or when mandated by a court order. We’ll go over these exceptions during our first session to ensure you fully understand your rights.

How long will therapy last?

The length of therapy depends on your unique situation and goals. Some clients find relief after just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. Sessions are typically a full 60 minutes to ensure we have the time to explore your needs deeply. We’ll regularly review your progress together to ensure therapy is meeting your needs.
